Noah's...Rainbow!

We so often association Noah's story with the giant ark, the animals marching two by two and the endless days of rain. By the time we get to the end, we are just so thankful that the water is gone that we sometimes miss the real gem of the Noah story--the rainbow and the promise from God that is represents! The Bible tells us that God does not "change His mind" and that He fulfills each and every one of His promises (Numbers 23:19) so the fact that the rainbow is always a reminder of God's promise to never again flood the earth is a wonderful thing! Seeing a rainbow after the rain reminds us that God is a very real and active part of our lives!

SONGS
Colors of the Rainbow

The Rainbow is a Promise
(Tune: Did you ever see a lassie?)
The rainbow is a promise

A promise, a promise

The rainbow is a promise

A promise from God

He'll never, no never

No never, no never

He'll never flood the earth

That's our promise from God

FINGERPLAY
The Rainbow
One day the sun was shining bright
(hold up right hand)
But clouds came along, & it was dark as night
(move left hand over right hand as if clouds were covering the sun)
The rain began to sprinkle down
(wiggle fingers of both hand while moving them downward)
Soon it was raining all over town.
But when the clouds had passed on by
(move both hands to the right)
A beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky!
(make an arc overhead)

God Made Me Special

Enjoy this great song together and remember that you are, indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made!

God Made Me!

I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Psalm 139:14

Our God is the God of great things (galaxies, planets and stars) and small things (caterpillars, ants, and spiders) and everything in between. Right smack in the middle of all that is His creation that He loves the most: us! The Bible tells us that we are made in the image of God Himself (Genesis 1:26), that God made is in incredibly different and special ways (Psalm 139:14), and that He knows each of His us very well (Matthew 10:30). What a blessing it is to be made and known by the God of the universe!

SONGS

God Made Me
Two little eyes to look to God
Two little ears to hear His Word
Two little feet to walk His way
Hands to serve Him all my days.
One little tongue to speak the truth
One little heart for Him in youth
Take them all Jesus let them be
Always loving true to Thee.

God Made Me
God made me, God made me.
In my bible book it says that God made me.
God loves me, God Loves me.
In my bible book it says that God loves me.
God help's me, God help's me,
In my bible book it says that, God help's me

God Made
God made the tall, tall trees, (Arms stretched above head)
God made the bright, bright sun, (Arms wide open)
God made the birdies, tweet, tweet, tweet, (Make hands tweet like a bird)
And God made me! (Point to self)

God Made
Sung to the tune of "Twinkle, twinkle..."
God made trees that grow so tall and the little ants so small.
Apples red, the big, bright sun.
Stars that twinkle when the day is done.
Mommies, daddies, babies, too.
God made me and God made you!!!

I Am Special
(tune of Frere Jacques)
I am special (point to yourself)
I am special
Don't you see? (make binoculars with your fingers)
Don't you see?
Someone very special (hands out to the side, palms up)
Someone very special
'cause God (point to heaven) made me (point to yourself)
God made me!

Jesus Made Me Just Like Him
To the tune of "Jesus Loves Me."  Touch each part as you sing.
Jesus made me just like Him

Eyes and ears and nose and chin

Hands and fingers, feet and toes

Heart that loves and hair that grows.

Yes, Jesus loves me

Yes, Jesus loves me

Yes, Jesus loves me

He made me just like Him.

The Story of Creation in LEGO

That's right, your eyes doth not deceive you. It's a LEGO retelling of the story of Creation from Genesis. This was just too good not to post, especially since what kid doesn't love LEGOs? This would be a good one to share with older siblings as well! Enjoy!

Creation: God Made the World and Everything in It!

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created. Amazing, isn't it? There was nothing but God and then He started in on the work of creation. And he spoke to bring something out of nothing and to bring order to the chaos. Oh, the power of the very Word of God! This is such a great lesson for preschoolers who are very much into the concrete, touchable parts of their world. How incredible to point to a tree, a cloud, a star or a bug and say each time, “God made that! And that! And that!” We live in a world full of reminders that everything was created by a loving God who cherishes beauty and all things good.

BOOKS

Gerald McDermott's Creation is a stunning retelling of the creation story from God's point of view.

Amazon lists several more picture books for kids on creation, divided by age.

SNACK

A fun and tasty snack that serves as a fun way to tell the Creation story.
Day 1 -- God created the light and dark (mini Oreo cookies).
Day 2 -- God separated the water on the top from the water on the bottom. The top was sky, and the bottom was ground (Frosted Mini-Wheats cereal for the clouds and the ground).
Day 3 -- God made the green grass, the trees, and the flowers (green M&M's candies, stick pretzels, and red M&M's candies). God also made the fruit and the berries (raisins and blue M&M's candies).
Day 4 -- God created the sun and the moon and the stars (orange M&M's candies and yellow M&M's candies).
Day 5 -- God made the birds and the fish (Goldfish crackers).
Day 6 -- God made man and woman and all the animals that walk on the ground (animal cookies).
Day 7 -- God rested on the seventh day (marshmallow "pillows"). God blessed the seventh day and made it holy.
God looked at everything he made and said, "That looks good!" Now, let's enjoy God's creation by eating our snack!

Happy Valentine's Day

I recognize that most of this is coming a little late for Valentine's Day--please forgive my tardiness! Some of it can be enjoyed all year long, however, so I decided to go ahead and share it with you all. I hope you had a blessed Valentine's Day, chock full of love!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day! What a great day to lavish love on those given to us by God! After all, didn't God send us the first Valentine when he sent Jesus? Of all those candy hearts with messages in red printed on top, only one matters to God: Be Mine. That is the message He wants to send us this Valentine's Day and everyday! “Be mine,” He says. What a wonderful thing to know that the Creator of the Universe wants us to be His. Gives Valentine's Day a whole new meaning, doesn't it!

BOOKS

Crystal Bowman gives us a simple rhyming story about celebrating the ultimate source of love in her board book My Valentine Story: Giving My Heart to God.

In God Loves Me More Than That, Dandi Daley Mackall shows all of the ways that God loves us: “More than the letters between A and Z. More than the bumbles in a bumble bee. God loves me more than that!” Perfect for Valentine's Day and all year!

Tim Warnes' Jesus Loves Me is a wonderful book version of the beloved song, following a family of bears as the share the love of Jesus with each other and their friends.

Projects for Preschoolers has a great list: 19 Preschool Books that Say I Love You. You can check this list out for more smushy, gushy, lovey dovey fun with your preschooler!

God's Love
God's Love is so wonderful, (thrice)

Oh! Wonderful love!

So high [reach arms up to the sky] you can't get over it,

So wide [stretch arms wide] you can't get around it
Oh! Wonderful love!

Welcome to The Good Book Storytime!

Hello and welcome! The Good Book Storytime is a library-style story program for preschoolers at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island. We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of most months to share the stories and scriptures of God's Word through rhymes, songs, felt board stories, fingerplays, picture books, crafts and snacks.

Ministering to the preschool age group is such a blessing! Their hearts are wide open and ready for God's Word to pour in and fill them up from head to toe. In fact, Jesus had a special love for the innocence and simplicity of young children, saying, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children." (Matthew 11:25, NIV) He also pointed out that the kingdom of heaven belonged to those with hearts as little children (Matthew 19:14), placing high regard to the wonder and guilelessness of childhood that makes simple, unfettered faith of even the most complicated theology.

It can also be a challenge, however, to communicate to preschoolers in a way that is meaningful and fun. The goal of this blog, therefore, is to bring together many of the resources available for the communication of God's love to preschoolers into a cohesive collection for the adults who love and minster to these precious children everyday. Picture books, songs, rhymes, felt board stories, crafts, creative snacks and more can help the world of the Bible come alive to small children!

So whether you are a Sunday School teacher, a grade school librarian, a preschool teacher, a parent, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or whatever! Come on in, have a seat and join us for The Good Book Storytime!
